Each year we ask all students to complete a pre-course assignment. The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to carry out some background reading and research around a current topic and to write a short academic essay which will be marked by your academic tutor during the first week of term. Written feedback, targets and guidance will be given in order to support you with the development of your academic writing skills at Level 7 (MA level).

Professor Dylan Wiliam, former Deputy Director at the Institute of Education, Professor of Educational Assessment, and expert panel member, said:
“There is growing acceptance all over the world that the quality of the teacher is the most important determinant of how much students learn. In this context, it makes sense to check that the national curriculum provides the right balance between providing a firm structure for shared national expectations for what students should learn and allowing enough scope for teachers to have the freedom to use their creativity to maximise student learning.”

If you receive an offer of a place, you will be invited to attend a pre-induction day in order to help you prepare for the start of the programme and provide guidance and support with regard to any conditions you may have to your university offer. For example, we will be running QTS skills test support for literacy and numeracy on the day.
